What Happened Wasn't Your Fault

Man reaching for help, recovering from pain

For adults ready to stop carrying what happened to them alone.

Whether it happened once or over years, whether you've told people or never said a word — what happened to you shaped how you see yourself, other people, and what's safe. That doesn't mean it has to keep shaping you forever.

Signs the Past Is Still Running the Show

You may not think of yourself as someone with "trauma." You might just know that:

  • You can handle a crisis but fall apart over something small

  • You pull away right when someone starts to get close

  • You feel ashamed for reasons you can't quite explain

  • Your body reacts (tension, numbness, startling) before your mind knows why

  • You've been told to "just move on," and you've tried

None of this means something is wrong with you. These are things a young nervous system learns in order to survive. They made sense then. They're just costing you now.

You Don't Have to Tell the Whole Story

Many people avoid therapy because they assume they'll have to describe everything that happened, out loud, in detail. You don't have to. EMDR and ART can resolve a memory without you narrating every piece of it, and IFS lets us work with the parts of you that carry the pain at a pace they're comfortable with.

We set the pace. If something feels like too much, we slow down. Going slowly is not a failure. It's what keeps the work safe and effective.

What Changes

When the past stops running the present, people tend to describe it in plain terms: sleeping better, reacting less, feeling less shame, being able to let people in. The memories don't disappear. They just stop feeling like they're happening now.

Not sure if this is the right fit? Book a free consultation and we'll talk it through.

These things shouldn't happen, but they do.

  • Childhood abuse (physical, emotional, or sexual)

  • Sexual assault at any age

  • Complex trauma from an unsafe or unpredictable childhood

  • Shame, self-blame, or difficulty trusting that follows you into adult relationships

It wasn’t your fault. Healing is possible, and you don’t have to do it alone. If you're reading this it might be time to get the help you deserve.

Sessions are in person in Millcreek, minutes from Salt Lake City, weekly or as a trauma intensive.
